INFINITY E1 (bounce)

In India, the Bounce Infinity E1 electric scooter has a starting price of Rs. 88,478. There are 2 models and 6 colours available, with the top variant starting at Rs. 1,06,760. The motor of the Bounce Infinity E1 produces 1500 W of power. The Bounce Infinity E1 creates a combined braking system of both wheels with both front and rear disc brakes.

Bounce's first electric scooter in India is the Infinity E1. This e-scooter will be offered with a distinctive subscription plan for "battery-as-a-service."

You can purchase the Infinity E1 electric scooter with or without a battery and charger. Customers of the latter must choose the battery-as-a-service package in order to use the scooter via Bounce's battery swapping network. The Infinity E1 costs Rs 68,999 with a battery and Rs 45,099 without a battery (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). It's interesting that the FAME II subsidy is available for the Bounce Infinity E1.

Customers who purchase the scooter without the battery must stop by Bounce's exchanging station to get a fully charged battery in place of the depleted one. According to the business, compared to traditional scooters, this pattern of use reduces the operating costs of the e-scooter by 40%. Customers who choose to purchase a scooter with a battery have the option to remove it and charge it whenever is most convenient.

The Infinity E1 has the following specifications: a BLDC motor that generates 83Nm of torque and has a top speed of roughly 65kmph powers the vehicle. According to the firm, it takes 8 seconds to run from zero to 40 kph. There are two ways to deliver the power: Eco and Power. It is a 48V39Ah battery that can be charged using a standard electrical outlet. It runs for 85km on a full charge and charges in four to five hours.

The Bounce Infinity E1 is also loaded with a host of features like remote tracking, geo-fencing, drag mode, reverse mode, cruise control, anti-theft mechanism, and tow alert. Bounce is also offering a smartphone application that allows the user to virtually control a lot of aspects of the e-scooter.

Introduction

Why to buy it?

-Swappable battery

-Accessible buying options

-Offers a comfortable ride

Why to avoid it?

- Could get smoother throttle calibration

- Build quality could be better

The world is moving towards electrification at, well, the speed of light, notwithstanding the disdain that some petrolheads may have for the concept. We have witnessed a rise in the number of electric vehicles in our nation as a result of the Indian government's promotion of the process through subsidies and other perks.

One such instance is Bounce, a business with headquarters in Bengaluru and its first product ever, the Infinity E1. A bucket of EVs with a boatload of claims makes it easy to confuse you—a buyer—so, aside from how it rides and other factors, I wanted to know what makes the E1 stand out from the crowd.

THE VISUALS

Let's start with the Bounce Infinity E1's exteriors before I respond to all of it. The reason the E1 may look familiar to you is that it is quite similar to the 22Kymco i-Flow. Once the brand was no longer in existence, Bounce took over their operations. In any case, the aesthetic of the Infinity E1 is largely conventional, drawing inspiration from today's fashion rather than going overboard with futuristic design.

The hints of sharp creases also make it interesting to look at. But the somewhat retro, bullet-shaped headlamp seems out of place in this design, even though it does look cool. Even the round mirrors- they add aesthetic, but with a small size, provide a limited rearview and multiple blind spots.

That said, the quality and fitments of parts are decent for a two-wheeler from a brand new company. Yes, there are a few teeny gaps on the lower side of the bodywork, and a slight lapse in paint finish around bolts, but other than that we found nothing to grumble about. The switchgear is adequately tactile and easy to use and so is the LCD instrument cluster.

THE PACKAGE

The instrument cluster, with its vintage aesthetic, provides important data such the battery level, range, speed, odometer, and excursions. Although there is a connection option to an app, the display itself is pretty simple. Nevertheless, it also shows the scooter's operating mode. There are two options available: Power and Eco, which have speed restrictions of 41 and 65 kilometres per hour (kph), respectively.

You also have 'Drag' and 'Reverse' modes in addition to that. While the use of the reverse mode is self-explanatory, the drag mode, which treads at a maximum speed of 3 kmph, helps the rider in the event of a puncture or breakdown. For enhanced safety, each of these settings turn on the LED danger lights.

The bike likewise flaunts a Drove tail light and a Drove headlamp with DRL. While we didn't be able to test it around evening time, we can undoubtedly tell that the arrangement would give a good toss however miss the mark on spread expected to enlighten well.

THE RIDE

The Bounce Infinity E1 has the appearance of a standard-sized scooter and is simple to board thanks to its low 780mm seat height. Both the rider and the passenger may comfortably sit in the seat, which is comfortable and cushioned. Additionally, there is enough for two people to sit comfortably. However, anyone shorter than 5'7" would find it difficult to have both feet placed comfortably because of how wide it is even at the front.

On the other side, taller riders can have issues with the low-set handlebar that digs into the knees in a full lock spin. The Infinity E1 would therefore benefit from a tapering seat and a slightly taller handlebar because, otherwise, it feels pleasant to be sitting on. Additionally, there is enough of room for your feet to wander around and keep a small bag in between, which we found to be lacking in the majority of similarly priced EVs on the market.

The ride quality of the Infinity E1 is equally impressive. Although the hardware is simple, it seems well-configured. With a passenger on board, the ride improves and the scooter easily absorbs bumps and undulations in the road, even though the rear seems slightly stiff. After that, let's talk about the performance, which is relaxed much like the scooter's ride. The Infinity E1 isn't quite race-ready because it only has a 1.5kW (2bhp) and 85Nm of torque BLDC motor. In Power mode, it can still travel up to 65 kph. In contrast, the scooter's top speed in Eco mode is 40 kph, which is a respectable speed for riding around cities.

The switch between the modes is seamless, the whine from the motor is minimal and while the throttle is abrupt at the start, it feels smooth once on the move. The brakes were mighty impressive too offering sharp bite at both ends with little lever effort. Having said that, the Bounce Infinity E1 is an agile scooter. It is also light, weighing just 94kg. That also makes it easy to move around and pull out of a tight parking spot, even without the need for its reverse mode.

Now, with limited time on our hands, we weren’t able to test its range, but the company claims a maximum range of 85km from its 1.87kWh battery. Although, this would be while riding in Eco mode and the range will be much lesser if ridden at higher speeds.

Should You Buy It?

With its purchasing possibilities, Bounce has given the Infinity E1 a significant USP. The Infinity E1 may be purchased without the battery for Rs 36,099 in addition to being offered with a battery and charger as standard for Rs 59,999 (both prices are ex-showroom Gujarat). The battery can be "rented" for a fee of Rs 1,249 per month. Although the scooter is only now offered in Bangalore, it is anticipated to be made available in 10 other locations by April 2022.

Now, the E1 with a battery costs Rs 8,500 less than the TVS Scooty Zest 110, which is the most cheap ICE scooter on the market. In addition, the E1 is lighter than the Zest 110, making riding it at its highest speed much smoother than on the Zest 110 at 80kmph. The Zest 110, on the other hand, can run three times as long as the E1 on a full tank, with a range of about 220 kilometres.

The interchangeable battery pack is useful in this situation. Battery docks have been installed by the corporation, and it plans to have one at every 2 km of convenience stores, ATMs and, unfortunately, gas stations as well. And it's a very easy process. Simply arrive at the dock, enter a code, and swap out the old battery for a fresh one. This would eventually remove the largest issue with EVs, range anxiety, and would only cost a minimal Rs 35 every switch. It also negates the charging time.

However, this is only accessible to consumers who opt to rent the battery separately, just as the scooter, which is currently widely available in Bangalore. However, the firm asserts that it hopes to install 300 charging stations in all of the nation's major cities.

Having said that, the Infinity E1 scooter is quite endearing. It offers a smooth, comfortable ride, and a reliable powerplant for city driving. Although the advertised range is respectable, we won't know for sure until we ride it a lot. If we had to pick, the Infinity E1 would be a smoother scooter to ride if the brakes and throttle were calibrated more smoothly, and the build quality could be a little bit better. The E1 would, however, only be a satisfying electric two-wheeler to purchase if Bounce is able to fully capitalise on its charging points and provide seamless dealer operations across the country.
