The starting price for the electric scooter Okinawa Praise in India is Rs. 89,582. Only 1 version and 7 hues are offered. Okinawa Praise's motor produces 1000 W of electricity. Okinawa Praise develops an electrically assisted braking system with front and rear disc brakes.
The Praise is the top-of-the-line electric scooter on Okinawa and has features to back up its "premium" label. There are two models of the e-scooter: Praise and PraisePro. It receives an aggressively designed LED headlamp unit, LED DRLs on either side, and turn indicators built into the steering wheel. A variety of additional features are also included, including a find-my-scooter function, a side-stand indicator, and anti-theft sensors. It is supported by dual shock absorbers in the back and telescopic forks up front. Dual disc brakes at the front and a disc brake at the rear, a first for this sector, provide stopping power.
A 72V/45Ah battery, which is available in both VRLA type and Lithium-ion battery format, powers the Okinawa Praise. The lithium-ion batteries only need one hour to charge, compared to the six to eight hours required by the VRLA. The only battery option for the PraisePro is a lithium-ion one.
The scooter has three different settings: Eco, Sport, and Turbo. The e-scooter can only go at top speeds of 30-35 kph in Eco mode, 50–60 kph in Sports mode, and 65–70 kph in Turbo mode. The scooter can climb slopes of up to 15 degrees.
There are three colour options for the Okinawa Praise: purple with black, blue with black, and gold with black. While Glossy Red Black and Glossy Sparkle Black are the two colour options available for the more expensive PraisePro.
Introduction
Pros: Has great features, has a respectable range. includes a removable battery
Cons: The bulky power pack, the rigid suspension, and the high footboard.
One of the promising manufacturers in India's emerging market for electric two-wheelers is Okinawa. With six models in its lineup and a robust retail network all over the nation, the business has already made a significant impact. The PraisePro has now been unveiled by the Gurugram-based firm to further expand its product line.
The Pro version is the third member of the Praise family, which also includes the more basic Praise and the more expensive I-Praise Plus with lithium-ion battery. The Pro trim is available to fill the gap between the two by providing clients with effective and contemporary Li-ion technology in a more cost-effective package than the Plus trim. While potential e-scooter owners may find that persuasive, we spent a few days with the PraisePro to see how practical, easy, and cost-effective it is to live with.
Quality
The PraisePro has a futuristic design that is typical of electric two-wheelers. However, as you go closer, you start to have doubts about the construction. The overall quality of the plastic bodywork is mediocre, if not downright shoddy. A more luxurious finish could have been applied to the aluminum-finished panels that surround the instrument cluster. However, the overall body paint seems to be a finished product. Additionally made of sturdy plastic, the switchgear has tactile buttons that work.
The PraisePro, however, makes up for any minor quality shortcomings with its eye-catching appearance. The contoured body panels have bold lines all throughout, and the fashionable LED headlight and tail lighting only serve to enhance the charm. Some nice visual details include the false air inlet on the handlebar cowl, the aluminum-finished bar ends and the angular grasp rails. Last but not least, the 12-inch wheels with knobby tyres appear tough and prepared for various road conditions.
Comfort
The PraisePro falls short of the neutral riding attitude that is often offered by scooters. Because of the placement of the electric motor underneath, the footboard is too high, causing the knees to fold uncomfortably. This not only makes the foot-down-foot-up motion difficult in heavy traffic, but it also begins to pain the back after only 30 minutes of riding. However, given the brief spins the PraisePro is intended for, this shouldn't be a significant issue. In addition, the seat is roomy and comfortable, and the handlebar is properly situated, which partially solves the footboard issue.
When it comes to ride quality, the dual rear shock absorbers and front telescopic forks are calibrated to be on the harsher side, which produces strong jolts on bumpy roads. Thus, it is best to travel slowly through uneven roads and speed bumps. The small size and light weight allow for excellent traffic manoeuvrability. The horn switch, however, is difficult to access because it is positioned above the turn indicator switch. However, there is a second, conventionally-placed horn button on the right side.
Performance
A 1kW BLDC motor with a 2.5kW peak power rating is powered by a 2kW lithium-ion battery in the PraisePro. The PraisePro benefits greatly from the entire setup. From the minute you press the accelerator, the scooter offers the typical torquey ride of an electric two-wheeler. From 0 rpm on, the torque surge is felt and lasts until it reaches its maximum. Slow-moving cars can be readily passed in traffic, however it isn't very rapid.
But that just applied to Sports mode. In an effort to provide a longer range, there is also an Eco mode with a top speed of about 40kmph. Additionally, the acceleration is really slow. Essentially, this mode is only appropriate for short trips, but the Sports mode, with a top speed of roughly 70 kmph, is also appropriate for a little bit longer outings. By switching on the Turbo mode, which raises the top speed by 4-6kmph, the latter can also be improved. The PraisePro's performance is usable, however the accelerator occasionally exhibits response lag while modulating it in traffic at low speeds. As a result, when accelerating on and off at low speeds, the rider would sway back and forth.
On both ends of the e-scooter, disc brakes are installed. Although that may seem amazing, the rear brake struggles to shed speed because it lacks feel and bite. In this case, the front brake saves the day by providing the required stopping force with just enough progress to prevent locking the front wheel.
Technology
A long list of features is typical for electric two-wheelers, and the PraisePro satisfies that requirement. The remote control for the scooter comes with four buttons. One of these is the lock key, which, once activated, sets off a loud alarm if the ignition is turned on with the key. By clicking the "alarm" button, you can turn off this siren. To 'unlock' this feature when the scooter is off and the engine is off, however, in order to stop the siren from going off the next time you start it with the key. A remote start button for the scooter is also included on the remote control. You must push the 'lock' button on the controller when the mechanical key is off to extinguish it once it has been lit.
Despite how fancy they may sound, the controller-based functions are difficult to understand and require some getting used to. Additionally, almost all button presses on the controller are followed by a loud beep sound that cannot be muted or turned off.
Let's get to the main issue with electric scooters right now: battery charging. The 2kW detachable battery pack for the PraisePro comes with an 84V/10A charger. Although this makes it possible to safely charge the batteries within the home, moving the 12 kg pack about requires a lot of effort. For the majority of users, moving the battery for charging could be exhausting. Additionally, the big battery takes up the entire space under the seat, leaving you with only a tiny storage area. The key fob's integrated seat opening feature is rudimentary and labor-intensive to use. The scooter does include two sizable open glove boxes with USB charging ports on the front, and the spacious footboard is also helpful.
The PraisePro is equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster that shows the following information: speed, RPM, battery level, riding time, odometer, and trip metre. Additionally, it shows the selected riding mode as 1 (for ECO), 2 (for Sports), and 3 (for Turbo). The display is incredibly readable due to its straightforward design and basic typefaces. We might be being unreasonable, but a Bluetooth-capable console would have been a plus.
Battery range
The PraisePro's battery needs three to four hours to fully recharge. While the ARAI claims that the battery can travel 110 km in Eco mode, our test resulted in 87.5 kilometres, which is respectable. Impressive is that even after travelling 80 kilometres, the acceleration remained unaltered.
Fitness of purpose
Okinawa has bridged the significant price difference between the Praise and i-Praise Plus with the PraisePro. It benefits from the ease of a detachable lithium-ion battery, which is designed to outperform lead-acid batteries in terms of life cycle, charging time, and range. Not to mention the useful functions it provides. When compared to other electric scooters in India, the PraisePro's MSRP of Rs 71,990 is reasonable. The Ampere Zeal is similarly priced at Rs 69,599 (ex-showroom, Delhi), but it has a smaller battery pack, a longer claimed charge time, a smaller motor, and fewer functions.
Our take
The PraisePro is quite contemporary, offers a respectable performance and range, and has a striking appearance. However, transferring the bulky battery pack is a painful task that significantly reduces the convenience factor. In order to charge the battery, you can put a plug point in your parking space. But do all garages offer adequate security for leaving the battery charging overnight? On a different subject, even though we may not spend lengthy periods of time each day riding an electric scooter, greater ergonomics and a plusher suspension system would always be appreciated. In a nutshell, the PraisePro satisfies the criteria for green and modern mobility, but there are still many rough edges that need to be polished for the time being.
