RV 400 (revolet)

The starting pricing for the Revolt RV 400 electric street bike in India is Rs. 1,35,136. There is only one variant and three hues offered. The motor of the Revolt RV 400 produces 3000 W of power. The Revolt RV 400 has a dual-wheel braking system with both front and rear disc brakes.

The Revolt RV400 is the nation's first electric motorcycle with AI capabilities that is styled after street naked motorcycles. Along with a fairing that protects parts like the motor and battery, it gets a muscular tank and robust tank extensions. It uses a one-piece seat and a bolt-on sub frame at the back. A single disc and CBS are used for both ends of the braking system.

A 3kW motor that generates 5kW of power and 50Nm of torque powers the electric motorcycle. It makes use of a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery with an unrestricted mileage warranty. The bike has three riding modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport, and the range varies depending on which mode is being used. The bike can travel 90 kilometres in the Sport mode and 85 kilometres in the City mode, which has a range of 120 kilometres but a speed limit of 65 kilometres per hour. The RV400 has a range of 156km while riding in Eco mode, which allows the bike to reach a top speed of 45kmph.

The RV400 has a full-digital instrument cluster with full-LED headlamp, taillamp, and turn indication lights, among other features. Additionally, it comes with an app that can be used to start the motorcycle, set up a geo-fence, and receive notifications when the battery is running low. Additionally, the business provides a "Delivery on Demand" function that lets customers have fully charged batteries delivered to a designated place. In addition, Revolt provides the RV400 with an onboard charger, a portable battery charger, and will soon set up battery changing facilities, which they will call Switch facilities. The most intriguing elements, though, are the simulated exhaust notes, which can be altered from the smartphone and also turned on or off while driving.

The motorcycle is available from Revolt in two colour options: black and a dual-tone black/red paint.

Introduction

Fuel will eventually become fossilised due to greater environmental, political, and societal pressure, which is not surprising. When it comes to scooters, the electric revolution is accelerating here in India. Additionally, a few businesses have made electric motorbike promises in the past, but only one of them appears to have followed through.

The Revolt RV400, the first electric motorcycle to be produced in the nation by Revolt Motors, is shown here. The RV400 is a motorbike that the manufacturer hopes will be accessible, inexpensive, and entertaining while defying the restrictions of owning an electric vehicle. Does it support their assertions then? Or is it merely one of the exaggerated electric cars that have shown for a moment before disappearing? To discover out, we drove the RV400 around a karting track that had actual roadblocks installed.

The Visuals

While most electric motorcycles resemble something out of Dr. Brown's time machine, Revolt Intellicorp's designers created the RV400 with traditional motorcycles in mind. A full-LED headlamp in the shape of a hexagon is installed on the front forks, and it is flanked by LED turn indicators. The 'tank' shrouds feature an angular form, and the rear section is held in place by a bolt-on subframe. Additionally, it has an LED tail lamp that appears to have borrowed stylistic elements from a certain 313cc motorcycle.

The huge side panels, which would appear more suited on a fully-faired motorcycle, stand out despite the RV400's otherwise understated style. The panels' complex design, which includes several lines and folds, makes the bike appear plasticky. Even so, the fitment of the RV400 is respectable—there are hardly any visible panel gaps—but the plastics' and other parts' quality could be higher.

The package

In the world of electric vehicles, having a variety of technological gadgets is standard, and the RV400 is no exception. Three riding modes—Eco, Normal, and Sport—are available on the bike, and they can be switched at any time. The 'exhaust tones' that come from a speaker installed in the fairing are its major USP, though. Although it can also be turned on/off through a button on the switchgear, these sounds can only be modified using the Revolt app. The fact that an electric car can warn pedestrians and other traffic of its existence by making these simulated noises, despite the fact that they may seem artificial, is a great safety feature.

In addition, Revolt has given the RV400 a push ignition button in place of a traditional key fob. If that weren't fantastic enough, the bike can also be started using the Revolt app's "Start Electric" feature. The software also has a 'geo-fence' that sends notifications if the bike departs a specific geographic area and tells the user if the battery is going low. Additionally, it contains an LCD instrument display with a variety of information, albeit being challenging to read in bright sunlight. Along with speed, ampere metre, and trip metre, it also displays the selected mode, battery percentage, temperature, and ambient temperature.

THE RIDE

If you have the fake noises off, the RV400 will start up with a gentle 3kW motor hum as a welcome sound. Anyway, the throttle is pretty choppy at first and requires some getting used to. This is due to the fact that the entire 50Nm of torque is available to surge from 0 rpm! The modes are used in this situation. The Eco mode is the smoothest to ride in because it caps the speed at 45kmph and the throttle doesn't seem particularly choppy. This mode would be the best to use when riding through the turmoil of a city because it has the highest range of 156 km on a single charge.

The RV400 can reach 65 kmph in Normal mode or Mode 2, but when you switch to Sport mode, there is an abrupt surge of power. On the karting track, I was unable to exceed its electronically controlled top speed of 85 kph, but the speed of 70 kph flashed on the screen swiftly. The RV400 can travel 85 to 90 km on Sport. The front and rear disc brakes on the bike provide early bite but no sensation as it drops anchor. The system also includes a regenerative braking system, or RBS, which effectively recharges the battery by 2–3 percent while braking.

The elevated handlebar and the somewhat retracted, also-adjustable footpegs of the Revolt RV400 provide an upright riding position. Additionally, the seat has comfortable padding and provides extra space for taller riders. It weighs 108kg, is lightweight, and is simple to move around, which should make it useful in cities. The firm suspension system on both ends, which accentuates even the smallest bumps and undulations, negates some of its comfort.

Conclusion

Revolt has taken a risk and changed what it means to buy an electric two-wheeler. The RV400 is available in two versions: Base and Premium, either of which can be purchased for an EMI of Rs. 3499 or Rs. 3999 over the course of 37 months. When you think about it, this amount is comparable to the monthly cost of a high-end smartphone! Now, the RV400 may look pricey at a total of Rs 1.29 lakhs and Rs 1.47 lakhs, but thanks to the EMI option, it is lot more affordable. To further simplify ownership, the business is providing three years of free repair and brake pads, an unlimited battery warranty, and zero down payment.

The RV400 Premium additionally gets a one-time free tyre replacement in the first three years.

The RV400 checks all the boxes for being affordable, enjoyable to ride, and having respectable aesthetics and reliable features. But the package's biggest drawback might be the weight of the battery, which is also its most important component. It is 20 kg heavy and can only be removed from the tank vertically, making it a strenuous daily operation. Furthermore, three of the four charging methods provided by Revolt necessitate removing the motorcycle's battery. The bike may also be charged using a standard outlet, just like a smartphone, albeit installing a charger in an apartment parking lot or housing society has its own set of challenges.
